Brian Sage - American Impressionist
Brian Sage, born in 1974, grew up boating, drawing, and playing sports in a quiet New England town in Connecticut. He showed an early interest in art which was encouraged by his mother, an accomplished watercolorist, and grandfather, an architect and oil painter. Sage continued his visual arts studies at Rollins College where he earned a degree in fine arts.
When asked how he knew he wanted to be an artist, he replies, For a long time I didnt know. It was a struggle. After college I worked a variety of jobs and moved around a lot. I was restless and unsatisfied and then, through all the uncertainties, I became increasingly committed to my artwork.
Sage devoted himself to his work while advancing his techniques and letting his style unfold. He had the good fortune to meet American Impressionist John Terelak in
Rockport, MA who inspired Sage and became his mentor and friend.
To meet Brian is to understand his work. He lives life with a true sense of adventure and openness, always waiting to see what might present itself. Whether its the subtle interaction of two figures along a rainy city street or the bold simplicity and color of sailboats on a beach, he is constantly mining his life experiences, however lasting or fleeting they may be.
Passionate about people, beauty and simplicity, Sage describes himself as an American Impressionist whose focus is on people and their relationship to one another and their surroundings. His hope is that viewers will make a personal connection with his work
His work is vibrant and alluring, drawing the viewer in and guiding their eyes through the painting – something for which many of the gallery owners displaying his work have praised him for.
Brian currently resides in Deep River, Connecticut and travels regularly with his paints, camera and sketch pad – from quiet marine settings to big cities – in search of subject matter and inspirations for his intriguing paintings..
